So I stepped out and ran for 3 miles. As I thought about it I was going to die because I haven't been running consistently lately and I haven't really ran 3 miles outside in a long time. But I am grateful to say that I survived and considering the circumstances I kicked butt! I do want to improve my time and according to my Garmin I didn't do so hot pace-wise but that is okay I may forgive myself for the 9/17 race but I will not for the October race. I hope I can get back into it...cause I will have no choice come 15K in December.
Yay and go me!

2 days of running
I went to the gym and ran on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't get up this morning. I NEED to sleep more. It is such a challenge to be in bed by 10 or even 10:30 at times but I will aim to be in bed no later than 11pm!
I may run after work but we will see what time I get out of here and get home. I want to give my new insoles a try.
For this week I am just going to aim 5-6 times and for 30 mins. I just need to get back into running. Well Sunday I may push it to 4 or 5 miles depending on how I am feeling and the weather. I then will get back to training next week given how I feel. I need to push myself a little more. I want to keep it up and I want to beat my time so I have to do it!
Well lets see how today and/or tomorrow goes.

EEEkkkk no training and no blogging...
What do I suck at most...restarting my training or blogging?!
Well both but I suck more at blogging than I do at restarting my training.
My last run was on Tuesday, August 16th and my last blog was August 11th.
Lets visit the excuses of why I haven't worked out in almost a week. Wednesday, August 17th there was no training. I didn't make it into the gym in the morning and there was no way I could make it up at night. Thursday there was no training either. I was too tired from the prior night of romantic boat sailing around the lower part of Manhattan to get up and I can't recall a good excuse for not going after work. Friday is a rest day on the training calendar but after not running for 2 days I really should have gotten up and gone. However, I didn't and that evening I went out so there was no way I was going to make it up afterwards. I think my excuse for Friday was needing to rest for the Great Urban Race on Saturday. I guess I'm glad I did rest but at the same time maybe just maybe I would have shaken the cobwebs off a bit and wouldn't be in as much pain as I am in now.
Saturday I had a great time running around the island of Manhattan figuring out clues with my good friend Pat. We did it in better timing than last year and boy did I get a workout becasue again I'm still in pain. Maybe I'll post about the details of the Great Urban Race. I wish that more of my friends did it. It is so much fun! But back to my running...I guess running around for about 4 hours is good enough to equal a 3 mile run.
Sunday came and went and although I was scheduled for a training session I didn't make it. I was truly exhausted from running around all day the day before then from being up late due to a birthday celebration at Studio Square and then some personal fun time.
Well on Sunday night I came to terms with my less than stellar attempt at restarting my training and I have decided to start from scratch. I have about a month left until the day of the race. I could have been further along in my training and in my ability, but it's okay, I will restart and give it another go. I have also begun to realize that I need to relax on how I eat. My appetite continues to be that of a person who is training for a half marathon, and I am not anywhere need that level now. More is going in and not enough is being burnt off. I have gone from teeter tottering at 130-131 to 134.2...close to 135. Tsk tsk Lizzie. It's okay we'll adjust our eating habits and we will restart the training. It will all balance out with time.
I also think I have come to terms with the fact that revenge...is not a good motivator for me. I am my own best motivator and so chop chop...get to it!

SMH!
Day 10 and so far I have missed 3 work outs! I don't even remember where I left off last I think I last reported my Thursday run which I was suppose to do after work. Yup that didn't happen. Then Friday came and went and I didn't make up my run.
Saturday I did do my 3 mile run. I took it easy and glad I did especially because it was hot! Well not as bad as it has been in the past but hot enough. I ran around noon time so that probably wasn't a good idea. Nonetheless I got 3 miles done and it felt good! The easy part again did help.
Sunday came and went and the rain became my excuse for not running...tsk tsk!
Monday was a rest day and I took it as a rest day. I should have ran but nope didn't.
Tuesday came and I stayed home thanks to having a horrible night of not sleeping due to the pain in my mouth. Braces how wonderful.

Day 4 training postponed until after work and Runner's Magazine
So Day 4 is here and
1. I went to bed late last night
2. was anxious about mom's trip to Guatemala
3. was anxious about finding one too many of those centipede buggers in the room, I swore all night they were on me
4. I was still tired from my interval training the day before.
Needless to say I didn't get up and out of bed to do my 3 mile run this morning. I will, however, do it after work. I don't want to get up tomorrow to make it up and it is only 3 miles so I will get it out of the way.
I hope to update you on my run tomorrow. I will try not to forget how I feel during my work out. All I know is that this morning it was absolutely beautiful for a run it was nice and cool. Oh well.
I would like to take advantage and write about a few thoughts that I had about running and what I read in September's issue of Runner's World. Side note: I absolutely love Runner's World. It is the only magazine other than US that I can read cover to cover. It offers great advice and inspirational articles about training or on some amazing runner out in this world.
In any case here are some things I would like touch upon:
1. What I would like to do differently this time during my training
2. NYC ING Marathon inspiration
3. Mantra repeating vs. being crazy
4. Including my mental state during my runs in my journal/blog entry
5. Running Fears.
Okay so maybe I won't tackle all these today as I may not get any work done. I do want to hold on to my job so I'll tackle one today.
An article I read touched upon getting the most out of the easy run. I have to say that what should have been an easy run in my 1/2 marathon training was not really an easy run. It might have been due to the time constraint. We ran in the morning and had to get back by a certain time to get ready for work. It may have been due to the fact that we didn't venture too much away from our usual route. Again due to time constraint we really couldn't venture too far from home or include a car ride somewhere else to run. It is understandable that the easy run was not the most enjoyable during my prior training. Well this time around I want to keep my easy runs as light and enjoyable as possible. I want to take in the scenery and smell the grass/flowers/sea water..etc. I would like to hit any road other than Union Turnpike and Queens Blvd. That alone makes me look forward to my runs.
My goal for my easy run: enjoy the scenery, change up the route, and take it easy. As the article said I will run 1-2 mins slower than my pace. I need to make sure I recover well for the next hard workout/ run.

Day 3 Interval Training
So it is day 3 of my 6 weeks training to running a faster 4/5 mile race.
Today's mission: interval training day.
I had to do 5 X 400 M hard and in between recover with walking and/or jogging.
How I did: It was hard to guage how hard I should go. Every so often I would go very hard and every so often I didn't go as hard as I would have wanted to go. During 1 lap I actually gave up about 100 meters before reaching the end. I also almost gave up before my last 400 M but thanks to my running buddy who was still going around the track doing her Couch to 5K training, I motivated and wrapped it up. I did 5 X 400 M as hard as I could.
How I feel now: I feel good now though my left leg felt a bit shaky. My left hamstring especially inner has been a cause of concern and it is still worrying me.
How to improve: I need to stretch better. The one thing I suck at. I also need to figure out when I will fit in a strength training session in during the week. I also may need to gauge and figure out how fast I should be going.
Notes/feelings: I'm glad to be back out there and running. I am looking forward to seeing my time improve. I will take it easy the rest of this week. Sunday I have a long run of 5 miles...let's see how that goes. You think it should be cake after a 1/2 marathon but I still am hesitant when the mileage is any more than 4 miles. :)

Day 2 of 6 weeks training towards faster time!
So here I am on 8/9/2011 and embarking on a new training to run a 4 and 5 mile race faster. I have decided I will document my journey this time because I did a half marathon on 7/31/2011 and yet other than my gps watch documenting my pace and heart-rate I never did anything to keep track of what I did during my training. I have no recollection of how easy and/or hard a work out was and no way of knowing where exactly I need to improve.
When I started jogging again after my hip issue, the big big pain I use to get on my right hip, I was good about tracking my treadmill runs. I recorded the calories burned, the distance and time I ran. I occassionally did comment on whether it was a good workout or if I had a hard time. Then when I took my runs outside, actually when I started my training, I stopped recording anything at all.
After hearing someone elses version of my athletic ability, or actually someone's incorrect account of my athletic ability, it was a nice kick in the butt. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe its a matter of how I see things and how they saw things....but my gut tells me they were just wrong. I now have decided that unless I write it down then I won't recall how it really was. So now besides wanting to kick butt, thanks for the motivation, I want to document and take it as a tool to help myself improve.
Again I am embarking on a 6 week training schedule to improve my pace at a 4 mile run I have on Saturday, September 17, 2011. My goal is to get under a 9:28 pace/mile as that was my best time for a 4 Mile race I did March 27th, 2011.
I did a relatively easy 3 mile run today as it took me more than 30 mins to get it done...hmm I should have recorded how long it took. I think it was less than 35 mins. I took it easy because I haven't run since the 1/2 marathon which was 9 days ago. My legs are still working a little tightness on my left hamstring, my breathing needed some help and yes I could go faster but that is what we will be working on these next 6 weeks. I'm nervous yet excited. I really just want to get faster and more fit.
Day 1 down...well day 2 as day 1 is a rest day, hehe, now 38 more days until race day!
